Dr. Armin Schwarzbach, MD, PhD

Dr. Schwarzbach has been licensed to practice medicine in 1991.  In 1992/93 his training as internist took place in Limburg/Lahn with Prof. Neuss and Prof. Brodersen in the departments of infectiology, oncology, cardiology and gastroenterology.

From 1994 to 1997 Dr. Schwarzbach broadened his expertise as assistant physician in microbiology in the laboratory practice Drs. Portheine and colleagues in Koblenz, in immune-diagnosis, infectiology and endocrinology with Drs. Kragenings and Römmler, as well as in clinical chemistry with Drs. Dirr, Wimmer and colleagues in Munich.

After his acknowledgement as medical specialist for laboratory medicine in 1997 he worked in the Labor-Gemeinschaftspraxis Dr. Riegel, Albath and colleagues in Wiesbaden and since 2000 in the Synlab-Labor Dr. Wimmer and colleagues.

Dr. Schwarzbach gained experience in research in clinical medicine continuously since 1984 as an intern and training student with Drs. Grötsch und Schacht in one of the first world wide biochemical laboratories of the former Hoechst A.G., Frankfurt/Main.

From 1986 to 1990 he developed the first radioimmunoassay for the determination of human gastric inhibitory polypeptides worldwide under the supervision of Prof. Krause and Prof Schrezenmeier in close co-operation with Dr. Neubauer, Hoechst A.G., Frankfurt/M. at the Endodrinology Center at the University of Mainz.

Since 2004 Dr. Schwarzbach has taught Anatomy and Pathology at the Geriatric Care School of the Industrial Training Center in Augsburg.

Besides his occupation for nine years as medical specialist for laboratory medicine Dr. Schwarzbach defines the following professional focal points:

  • Lyme disease diagnosis (e.g. consultancy for patients and physicians) including personal lectures and publicity work
  • Support of Lyme-disease patient organizations and support groups
  • Consultation of patients and physicians concerning the prevention of diseases – preanalysis with specific lectures
  • Advanced training commissioner

Dr. Schwarzbach is engaged in the following voluntary work:

  • Deputy Chairman of the „Verein für Diagnostik, Therapie und Prävention der Borreliose und FSME e.V. –ZecTect“
  • Member of the Deutsche Borreliose Gesellschaft e.V.
  • Member of the International Lyme and Associated Diseases Society (ILADS)

  • Member of the Liga für Zeckenkranke Schweiz (LiZ)

  • Member of the Deutschen Gesellschaft für Klinische Chemie und Laboratoriumsmedizin
  • Member of the parish council and deanery
  • Member of the town council

Dr. Schwarzbach also is chief executive of the B-C-A Borreliose Centrum Augsburg Betriebs GmbH & Co. KG.
